    DRY AIR SYSTEM

A transformer dry air system (or generator) is a specialized unit that removes moisture from atmospheric air to produce ultra-dry air (dew point – 50℃ to – 70℃ ) to protect transformer insulation during installation, maintenance, and maintenance. It acts as a safer, more convenient alternative to nitrogen, allowing workers to enter the tank.

    Key Functions and Components:

    • Moisture Protection: Prevents atmospheric moisture from entering the transformer oil and windings, protecting dielectric strength.
    • Continuous Operation: Uses a dual absorber system (activated alumina or molecular sieve) that switches between drying and regenerating the sorbent to provide uninterrupted air flow.
    • Process: Atmospheric air is compressed, cooled (condensing moisture), filtered, and finally passed through desiccant dryers to achieve extreme low-humidity levels.
    • Safety & Efficiency: Enables safe, open-tank operations for personnel, prevents oxygen deficiency, and speeds up maintenance compared to conventional methods.

    Key Applications:

    • Maintenance & Overhaul: Maintains low humidity inside the transformer during long-duration repairs.
    • Installation: Keeps the insulation dry during assembly or onsite installation.
    • Storage & Transport: Replaces heavy insulating oil with dry air, reducing weight during transport.
